Escort Vehicle, Car Collide on Interstate 81

One person is taken to the hospital after a crash on Interstate 81 near Whitney Point.

The crash involved the escort vehicle for a crane, and another car. It happened just after 4 pm.

The accident caused the southbound lanes to be closed down for a time.

The driver of the escort vehicle tells Fox 40 News that the car involved in the crash came up behind him.

He says he made a decision to stay right behind the crane, to prevent a worse situation from developing.

"I got a little closer to the crane because I felt that if he got up behind it himself, and hit it, it would have killed him," said Paul Meddley the driver of the escort vehicle.

No other injuries were reported.
