For FEMA Buyout Applicants, a Waiting Game
7/18/2012 (Updated 11:19:36 PM)
The town may use some of a 10 million dollar federal grant to pay for the portion of the buyouts that FEMA doesn't cover.
That is expected to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 20%.
Some the property owners are frustrated with wait to get the verdict from FEMA, but officials are hoping to have everything wrapped up by the end of the year.
"When the FEMA gentleman was here and he explained to us... he set the expectations of closings by June, you'll be sitting across a table from him and he'll be handing you a check and you have the opportunity to say yes or no. Well, now it looks like it's really gonna be the end of the year and those are the things that frustrate people," said William Oltmer, Town of Union resident.
