B-Mets blast past Erie

BINGHAMTON -- The Binghamton Mets set a season-high in runs scored and Gonzalez Germen matched a career-high by throwing eight innings in a 13-3 victory over the Erie SeaWolves on Sunday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. The win was Binghamtons fourth consecutive and eighth in their last ten games.

The B-Mets put nine runs on the board in the first two innings and finished one shy of a season-high with 17 hits. Seven of their nine starters collected multiple hits, led by Allan Dykstras 4-for-4 performance.

The contest was highlighted by early offense. After the SeaWolves grabbed a one-run lead on Jordan Lennertons RBI single in the top of the first, the B-Mets struck back with a vengeance in the bottom of the frame.

Binghamton unloaded on starter Kelvin De La Cruz for six runs on six hits in the frame. Wilmer Flores started the scoring with an RBI double and Eric Campbell gave the B-Mets the lead for good with a run-scoring single. Jefry Marte drove in another with a basehit and Dustin Martin continued the scoring with a two-run triple. Juan Lagares, the tenth batter of the inning, singled home another run to end De La Cruzs day. Jared Gayhart entered and struck out Havens to finally end the frame, Binghamtons biggest first inning of the season.

Erie scratched back with a run in the second on an RBI double by Wes Thigpen, but Binghamton continued their attack in the bottom of the inning. After a single and a walk, Martin blasted another two-run triple off the top of the center field wall. Juan Centeno drove him home with a single to right, giving Binghamton a 9-2 lead.

After allowing a double to Thigpen in the second, Germen settled in perfectly. The righty retired the next 18 SeaWolves in a row, cruising into the eighth. The stretch was disrupted when Michael Rockett launched a pinch-hit home run. Germen capped his day by inducing Niuman Romero to ground out. He allowed three runs on five hits and struck out three.

Gayhart closed his day with three scoreless innings of relief and handed off to Ryan Robowski who allowed three runs on six hits, highlighted by a solo home run by Wilmer Flores in the sixth. Binghamton added one more run against Bruce Rondon in the eighth.

Edgar Ramirez took over for Germen in the ninth and worked a perfect frame, securing Binghamtons fourth straight win, matching a season-high. Germen (7-7) earned his second straight victory while De La Cruz (5-8) suffered the loss.

The B-Mets (45-48) start a three-game series against the first place Trenton Thunder Monday night at 6:35 PM at NYSEG Stadium. LHP Darin Gorksi takes on RHP Mikey OBrien.
