An Off-Duty Firefighter Helps Save An Endwell Family

An Endwell family is lucky to be alive tonight after a fire breaks out at their garage and home in the middle  of the night.

But authorities say it was the swift action of an off-duty firefighter that probably saved their lives.

They say Union Center Firefighter Jim Brown and his wife were driving past the home on Yale street when they noticed fire coming from the garage.  They pulled over and knocked on their door as well as two of their neighbors so they could escape in time.

Officials say over 3 dozen firefighters were on the scene and it took about 45 minutes to completely put out the blaze which destroyed their garage, vehicle and had spread to the home.  Luckily no one was hurt and the cause has been determined to be accidental.
