More Host Families Needed For Fresh Air Program

Each year thousands of inner city kids leave New York City and spend time upstate with host families in what's known as the Fresh Air Program. This year the Southern Tier is experiencing a shortage of host families to open their home to these children. Organizers of the program say they're looking for families to host kids during the week of August 9th through the 17th. They say many of the kids have not experienced life outside of the city and all it takes is an open heart and a place for the child to sleep.
"Its good for them to get out and see the country, see family life. So many come from families where both parents work or they come from broken families and they can get into a family unit which is really good for them and see how that works and a normal way of life" said Joan Hanrahan, the chairperson of the Fresh Air Fund.
