Fences, Alarms Required for New York Pools

If you have a backyard pool and are unsure of some of the rules and regulations, you may want to listen up, or you could get stuck paying some pretty hefty fines.

If you have a swimming pool that's between two and four feet high,  in your backyard, it must be fenced in, and have a pool alarm.

It is also required that you obtain a building permit.

If you are cited, and ignore it, you could be taken to court.

If you are found guilty, you could end up paying $250.00 a day for each  violation.

"It's a core requirement of the state code, that's the bottom line. It's a safety issue--people can drown in pools, people can try and climb into the pool when it's unattended, and people do drown," said Daria Golazeski the deputy commissioner of Public Works of Codes and Ordinances.
