BCC Budget Debated

An item on the  Broome County Legislature's agenda created a bit more controversy Thursday evening.

The legislature approved the upcoming year's proposed budget for BCC.

However, prior to the approval, several legislators suggested a two-percent increase be given to the college.

In the end, the proposal was voted down, something that disappointed Democrat Dan Reynolds.

"The two percent is roughly $135,000 and that would support two positions," he said.  "It's a modest request and I thought it was perfectly appropriate to do that at this point."

Legislators did suggest they may revisit giving more money to BCC later in the calendar year.
