Broome County approves B-Sens lease agreement

BINGHAMTON -- Thursday the B-Sens and the County got one step closer to keeping the 2011 Calder Cup Champions around town for a while longer.

Broome County legislators approved a lease that will keep the team at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena until at least the 2016-17 season.

In April, BC Senators Inc., the ownership group of the B-Sens, and the Ottawa Senators agreed to a three-year affiliation agreement - which, Executive VP of Hockey Operations Tom Mitchell tells Fox 40, will be signed soon.

"We've not signed the affiliation agreement yet, but we've signed the letter of intent - which basically has been agreed to, and it was contingent on what happened hear today. So (the affiliation agreement) will be signed in the very near future."

The B-Sens have played at BCVMA since joining the American Hockey League in 2002.
