Welfare Reform Passes Senate, Restricts Certain Purchases

(Source: Fox 40 Staff)

A welfare reform bill sponsored by Senator Tom Libous has passed in  the New York State Senate.

The Public Assistance Integrity Act would make it against the law to use public assistance dollars for alcohol, lottery tickets, or casino gambling.

It would also prevent people from using their EBT card at ATM's in places like liquor stores, casinos and strip clubs.

The federal government is requiring states to put policies like this in place. Now, the bill goes to the Assembly.
