Defense Questions Witnesses in Detail in Wlasiuk Trial
6/7/2012 (Updated 11:40:02 PM)
In day one, Thursday, the defense strategy was very apparent, attempt to create a shadow of a doubt by bringing up discrepancies of witnesses testimony over the course of two trials. In both the 2002 and 2008 trials Wlasiuk was found guilty in murdering his wife, but both cases were overturned on appeal. District Attorney Joe McBride called seven witnesses in all to the stand Thursday including Patricia's mother and sister, an emergency first responder, a Hess Mart employee that saw Patricia the night she died, a resident around Guilford Lake and a bartender from Peter's bar the "Angel Inn." Back in 2002 Peter's car ended up in Guilford Lake, along with his wife, but how and why the two got there is what is still questioned 10 years later. Wlasiuk's attorney Mark Loughran spent most of the time questioning witnesses on testimony they gave in the first two trials, and harped on any little differences between them. That's a trend that seems like it will continue as the prosecution continues to call witnesses.
Both sides will be back in court once again Friday in front of Judge Crawely for the second day of trial..
