Wheelchair Ramp for Child

An Endwell boy facing his third heart surgery and battling cerebral palsy now has a safer way to get in and out of his home.

Five-year-old Matthew Craig got to use his new wheelchair ramp Friday for the first time.

Until Friday Matthew's parents had to carry him and his wheelchair in and out of the house.

A sometimes tricky maneuver during winter weather. In addition to having cerebral palsy, Matthew was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome meaning the left side of his heart didn't develop completely.

"You know there is so many people out there willing to give up there own time to help those that need it, it's hard to describe all of this," said Robert Craig the father of Matthew Craig.

Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield, Lechase Construction, C & C Construction Management, and Belknap Lumber all contributed to the project.

Matthew attends Homer Brink Elementary School in Endwell.
