Lightning + Chain Reaction Causes Vestal House Fire

Investigators said lightning caused a fire at 3612 Pinecrest Road in Vestal Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, a lightning bolt hit a pine tree behind the house.  The spark then traveled down the tree, into a chain link fence, jumped the gate, and arced from the fence to a nail on the side of the house.

The fire then spread to the garage and the attic.

No injuries were reported and no one was home at the time of the fire.
