Education
UHS offers diabetes education for
inpatients and outpatients as individuals or in group
self-management classes. The education components consist of
blood glucose monitoring education, insulin administration
instruction, insulin pump therapy, nutrition/meal planning
education and support groups.

Four easy steps to prevent Diabetes include:
regular exercise, a healthy amount of fiber in your diet
including whole grains, maintaining a healthy weight, and
sticking to a healthy diet.

Those who are at most risk are people over the
age of 45, those who have a family history of diabetes, are
over weight, do not exercise regularly and who have high
blood pressure.

Type 2 Diabetes is most common in African
Americans and Latinos.

There are 23.6 million adults and children in
the
United States
who are living with Diabetes.

Symptoms of Diabetes include excessive thirst,
excessive urination, extreme hunger, unusual weight loss,
fatigue, irritability, and vomiting/nausea
